Character formatting > Format painter

You can use the command Home | Format painter to instantly transfer the character formatting (font and font size, text styles, etc.) from one character to other characters.

To do so, proceed as follows:

1.	First, select the character whose format you want to transfer. You can also select multiple characters; however, they should all have the same character format.

2.	Click on the Format painter icon on the ribbon tab Home \| group Edit.

The mouse cursor then changes into a brush:

3.	Drag the mouse (with the mouse button held down) over the characters to which the format is to be transferred.

Tip: If you press and hold the Ctrl key while you do this, both the character formatting and paragraph formatting will be transferred.

4.	If you want to transfer the format to other pieces of text, repeat step 3. as often as required.

5.	When you are finished, click on the Format painter icon again or simply press the Esc key.
